Henkel Construction Company has completed multiple projects at the United Sugars facility in Mason City, Iowa. One project included construction of a pre-engineered structure linking two existing warehouse buildings. The purpose of this project was to shorten routing for forklifts moving product, thereby increasing productivity. The second project was a more complicated one, involving structural repair to the sugar distribution bridge located in the plant’s main bulk storage bin. The bin had to be completely emptied of sugar, and scaffolding had to be erected to an elevation of approximately 70 feet. All work was performed off the scaffold platform, including adding new structural members to rebuild the support drives of the distribution bridge, so that it would once again function properly, enabling the bridge to rotate around the bin.
